Background

Since 1995 I have offered obstetric and gynecologic services to the women and families of the Roaring Fork Valley. In 2005 I embarked on a solo-physician practice and founded Alpine Women’s Care to offer my clients a comprehensive health care experience for all their concerns. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA I’ve delivered over two thousand babies and been the first gynecologist in my area to bring progressive technology to the the area, such as 3D ultrasound and in-office surgeries for heavy bleeding and permanent birth control. In July 2009 Alpine Women’s Care relocated to Utah.

Just wanted to say I absolutely love your site and it is so awesome that you offer health information to the general public when I assume you are likely very busy to begin with. Thanks so much for doing what you do. I plan to visit your site often.

Keep up the great work. Much appreciated.

Great site, I’m going to show it to my technophobic Dad (OB/Gyn Prof Emeritus). He doesn’t understand that a lot of info can be available, and so easily. Like the ACOG link. It’s just great. Easy to navigate, good topics. Great job! Your patients are very fortunate. And informed, if they choose to be.

I just read the story on KSL about your tweet. I am saddened you retracted your comment. As a nation we spend more on healthcare then any other country and the prevention of many diseases is the reason why spending is out of control. Type 2 diabetes can start as early as in the womb when the mothers eating and sugars are out of control. The child may not have a chance with type 2 diabetes due to his mothers lack of control. I think you did the right thing and this pregnant woman needs to get herself under control if not for herself for her unborn child.
Prevention is key for overall health and wellbeing. Our country is on a downward spiral letting big business and industry convince us foods like margarine or over processed food is just as good or even healthy. Then just in case take a bunch of supplements that do no good because they too are over processed.
Be true to yourself!
I am a Healthcare Administration Major at WSU. graduating soon! I wonder how we are going make it if we don’t start taking responsibility for our own actions.
Take Care

Hi Monica,
Thank you for your support. I was trying to use irony to illustrate the difficulties in dealing with the most serious problem facing our nation, the obesity epidemic.

Obesity and excess weight gain in pregnancy are of particular concern because they have lifelong effects on the health of the fetus.

I was completely shocked by the amount of vitriol my attempt aroused. Many people ridiculed me for maintaining that we have control over our weight; and diet and exercise are valid approaches to weight control. So, obviously one cannot use humor or irony to discuss obesity.

I’m regrouping because I don’t want the message to get lost. I did learn an important lesson about using social media. Short posts on Twitter are easily subject to misinterpretation. People thought I was referring to an actual person, when in fact I was using a fictional vignette about the average American woman who is 5’2″ and whose average weight is hurtling through the 200 lb barrier at breathtaking pace.

Your support means alot. I have a very important message to convey and I’m working on another way to communicated that maybe even the obesity community can hear.
